Bostik STIX A640 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

Description Bostik STIX A640 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is a high performance, solvent-free, pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive, with low VOC emissions (EC1), which is ideal for bonding PVC sheet and tile coverings. Bostik STIX A640 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive has been specially formulated to give a high initial tack and excellent bond strength and dries to form a permanently tacky film. It is a high temperature adhesive when used as a wet stick adhesive. It offers high-performance as either a wet, or dry stick adhesive. Bostik A640 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive provides a smooth, easy application with excellent workability, which makes it ideal for use with all types of PVC floorcoverings. It can be applied to smoothing compounds, concrete, sand/cement screeds, flooring grade plywood, chipboard, hardboard and screed boards. Bostik STIX A640 is suitable for use with warm water underfloor heating systems, provided a surface temperature of 27°C is not exceeded. Coverage: Approx. 0.25kg to 0.40kg/m² (depending on the trowel used and smoothness of the floor surface). A1 Trowel: 0.2kg to 0.25kg per m² A2 Trowel: 0.3kg to 0.35kg per m² 1.5mm x 5mm Trowel: 0.4kg to 0.45kg per m² Directions for use: Preparation: Ensure the subfloor is clean, sound and dry (<75%RH), of adequate tensile & compressive strength, free from laitance, cracks, structural defects and contaminants that may prevent adhesion (e.g., dust, oil, grease, paint, plaster, polish, some curing compounds, surface hardeners, additives and adhesive residues must be completely removed), and conforms to BS 8204 code of practice. For subfloors that are not sufficiently smooth or require height build-up to receive the particular floor covering, an application of a suitable Bostik smoothing compound and primer system is recommended. Please contact Technical Services for advice on specific products and subfloors. The temperature of the floor and application environment must be stable and maintained between 5°C and 25°C throughout the application and drying of the adhesive. Room conditions must be maintained for 24 hours while the adhesive fully cures. Underfloor Heating: Bostik STIX A640 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive can be used on substrates containing warm water underfloor heating systems. The system must be switched off 48 hours prior to, during and for 48 hours post application. To prevent rapid dehydration, wait 48 hours after installation before gradually turning up underfloor heating. Priming: In certain cases, on very absorbent open textured screeds, it may be beneficial to prime the surface using Bostik GRIP A526 UNIVERSAL. Dilute 1 part Bostik GRIP A526 UNIVERSAL to 4 parts clean, cold water. Apply and allow the primer to fully dry (see separate technical data sheet). Priming reduces over-absorption of Bostik STIX A640 adhesive and improves workability, coverage and bond strength. Wet stick applications: Apply the Bostik STIX A640 adhesive to the substrate using the appropriate trowel size. Allow the adhesive to air for 10 to 15 minutes. Once the adhesive has sufficiently aired to form a tacky film over the adhesive ridges, place the flooring into the adhesive bed. If using Bostik STIX A640 for its high temperature properties, an open time of 40 minutes must be observed, and the adhesive must provide a full, wet transfer of adhesive to the back of the floor covering. Immediately roll the flooring using a 68kg heavy roller to dispel any trapped air and ensure there is a transfer of adhesive onto the backing of the floor covering. After 30 minutes, roll again. Dry stick applications: Apply Bostik STIX A640 to the substrate using the appropriate trowel size. Allow Bostik STIX A640 to air until it becomes fully clear 30 to 60 minutes. Once the adhesive has sufficiently aired to form a clear and permanently tacky film, place the flooring into the adhesive bed. Immediately roll the flooring using a 68kg roller to dispel any trapped air. After 30 minutes, roll again. Roller application: To minimise the effect of adhesive serrations showing through thin floor coverings, a roller pre-wetted with adhesive can be used to flatten what has been applied to the subfloor, ensuring that none of the adhesive applied is removed. This creates a uniform appearance and maximises surface contact with the floor covering. Place the floor covering immediately after application of the adhesive. Non-absorbent surfaces: Apply Bostik STIX A640 as above but allow to air until the desired level of airing has been achieved (10 to 15 minutes for wet stick applications and 30 to 60 minutes for dry stick applications). Place the flooring into the adhesive bed and immediately roll using a 68kg flooring roller. After 30 minutes, roll again. NOTE: Always follow the floor covering manufacturers’ installation guidance. Do not weld the joints before the Bostik STIX A640 adhesive has had sufficient time to develop a good bond (approx. 24 hours after installation).
